KARACHI: The Board of Directors (BoD) of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) held its 94th meeting Thursday, where the Board commended the airline management for its continued efforts that led to the removal of EU and UK flying restrictions - a milestone achievement after almost five years.

The Board also appreciated the airline’s overall performance, in terms of maintaining schedule integrity, aircraft maintenance turnaround timings to serve the premier routes of Paris, Manchester and Toronto.

During the meeting, the Board was also briefed on the airline’s operating plan for the next year, the performance of PIA’s Engineering Department, and the airlines’ safety standards attained and maintained over the past two years.

Acknowledging the continuous improvement in operational efficiency and safety, the Board lauded the PIA management and the Engineering Department for aligning performance with international aviation standards. The board established that sufficient amount of resources were being allocated and utilized to ensure sustained engineering and logistical support for the fleet’s operating requirements. The comprehensive maintenance regime and successful restoration of ATRs and Boeing 777s into service were particularly appreciated.

In recognition of these efforts and keeping in view the ongoing privatization process, the Board gave its principle approval for a special allowance for the PIA Engineering & Maintenance Division, which was already under consideration.

The Board also reviewed the proposal regarding the transfer of PIA assets to a government-owned PIA Holding Company, and approved measures related to aircraft repairs, engines’ acquisitions and spare parts procurement, to support the airline’s current operational requirements and next year’s operating plan.

Furthermore, the Board directed the management to ensure timely completion and implementation of all pending regulatory and operational approvals in preparation for the airline’s privatisation.
