KARACHI: Jammat e Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Monem Zafar Khan has slammed the Sindh government for what he called its alleged negligence and mismanagement that has left the Karimabad Underpass incomplete for over three years, causing trouble to local businesses and commuters.

Addressing a press conference at the underpass site on Saturday Zafar said the prolonged delay had devastated one of Karachi’s key commercial zones in District Central, home to around 9,000 shops supporting nearly 27,000 families. He said the half-dug project had turned Karimabad into a ruin.

He noted that while Islamabad completed three underpasses within 72 days, Karachi’s projects drag on indefinitely.

“The Karimabad Underpass budget has tripled, the Red Line shows no sign of completion, and the Green Line remains incomplete — the PPP government is a blend of incompetence, mismanagement, and corruption,” he alleged.

The JI leader said Karachi, despite contributing Rs3360 billion in taxes, remains deprived of basic civic facilities. He cited damaged water lines, broken sewerage, overflowing gutters, and roads in disrepair across the city. “Sindh’s rulers have failed to deliver anything except destruction,” he said.

Zafar also criticised the e-challan system, saying fines are issued at Dubai’s rates while the megacity’s infrastructure is worse than that of backward regions. “Speed limit boards are missing, traffic signals don’t work, and yet citizens are fined heavily — this is deception in the name of law enforcement.”

He said Jamaat-e-Islami has already moved the Sindh High Court over this issue.

Responding to a question, he said any dialogue with the PPP would only be possible if it demonstrated seriousness toward transparency and genuine development.
