ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defense Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Friday said that Afghan regime is responsible for deadlock in talks. There is no progress in talks with Afghan regime, he said while talking to a private television channel.

Afghan authorities are not giving assurance to Pakistan regarding misuse of Afghan soil against our country, he said. Afghan regime must take solid measures for stopping defunct organizations responsible for damaging peace in Pakistan, he said. Pakistan is facing terrorism due to infiltration of defunct organizations from Afghan bordering areas, he said.

Pakistan, Afghanistan return to Istanbul for more peace talks

BR Reporter adds: Earlier, Pakistan stated that talks with the Afghan Taliban regime commenced in Istanbul, dismissing as false the claims circulating on social media from Afghan accounts about a “deadlock” in the negotiations.

“The talks are under way amid the presence and with the participation of the mediators,” said the Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi at the regular weekly press briefing.

He said the mediators endorse Pakistan’s stance based on the evidence. “The mediators are discussing Pakistan’s demands with the Afghan Taliban delegation, point by point,” he said.

He stated that Pakistan has empirical and logical sets of information on the presence of Fitna Al Khwarij in Afghanistan, their abettors, their movement, the formation of tashkeels, and the trends to that effect. “So, this is the kind of evidence-based, verifiable, and empirical information,” he added. Pakistan’s demand of Afghanistan is “a single liner. The demand is that, based on information provided, these infiltrators of Fitna Al Khwarij should not be allowed to operate from Afghan soil and kill innocent Pakistanis.”

To a question about sending Pakistani troops to Gaza, the spokesperson said the decision of the deployment of Pakistani troops in Gaza as part of the International Stabilization Force will be taken in due course, as and when required. He said, “Certain quarters from the government have stated that the decision will be taken by the parliament. This is an important point as well.”

At the World Summit for Social Development in Doha, President Asif Ali Zardari underscored that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) are facing “Indian state terrorism” for decades. The President also accused India of deliberately violating international law by breaching the Indus Waters Treaty, describing it as a direct threat to regional stability—an act that deprives millions of Pakistanis of their right to water and livelihood.

The spokesperson said Pakistan, as one of the eight Arab-Islamic countries part of the Gaza Peace Plan, has remained engaged with the initiative that led to the signing of the Gaza Peace Agreement in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Pakistan reaffirmed its principled stance for the establishment of an independent, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in line with the UN and OIC resolutions.

He said the Indian media started flashing the false news that certain members of Hindu community were denied entry into Pakistan. “We categorically reject the unfounded and misleading allegations that members of the Hindu community were denied entry into its territory.”

He said that approximately 300 Pakistani visa holders were prevented by the Indian authorities from crossing over.

Responding to a question, he said the idea of establishing a verifiable monitoring mechanism between Pakistan and Afghanistan “is very much on the table. It has not been taken off the agenda.”

To a question on Indian media reports about the purported intelligence chiefs’ meeting, the spokesperson said that we should not talk about the “fairy tales” projected by the Indian media. “There is absolutely no truth in the meeting of intelligence agencies or any demands for hefty payments for Pakistan.”

About US President Donald Trump’s contradictory figures of Indian planes shot down by Pakistan, the spokesperson said “the number of planes shot down by our brave Air Force, be these six, seven, or eight, is part of history. It stands out as a landmark event in the history of air warfare. We stand by the numbers that have been given by our spokespersons from the ISPR and the Air Force,” he said. He said that “President Trump has played a positive role in this conflict, particularly when India requested the US’s intercession, to end this conflict. The role of the President of the United States was positive, and we hope that it would remain so in the future.”

He said “India’s “war mongering” continues. We would like the President of the United States, and indeed the larger international community as well as the United Nations, to keep a tab on the issue of peace, security, and stability in South Asia—take notice of bellicose and belligerent war mongering, emanating from New Delhi, and urge India to behave like a normal and civilized country.”

Regarding preparations for war by India, he said “Pakistan’s military preparedness is robust, and our armed forces and political leadership are fully geared to the defence of our country.”
