Beaver Supermoon to light up Pakistan’s sky today

The Beaver Supermoon, the largest and brightest moon of 2025, will rise on Wednesday at 18:19 PST in Pakistan.

At its nearest point, the moon will be 356,980 km (221,817 miles) from Earth, making it 7.9% larger and 16% brighter than a typical full moon, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) said.

It is the second in a trio of consecutive supermoons (October, November, December 2025) and will be visible worldwide, including Pakistan.

A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth—its perigee—in its elliptical orbit.

As it is nearer, the moon appears slightly larger and brighter than usual.

The statement said that the moon’s distance from Earth varies between perigee (closest) and apogee (farthest), and when a full moon is at perigee or close to perigee, it becomes a supermoon.

Supermoons can occur three to four times a year, though some years have more depending on how perigee aligns with full moons. New moons can also occur near perigee (“super new moons”), but attention usually focuses on visible full supermoons.

Compared to a full moon at apogee, a perigee full Moon can appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter, though the change is subtle to the naked eye. Exceptionally close alignments of Earth and moon, resulting in biggest and brightest Supermoons, are rare and noteworthy.
