At least eight people were killed and 47 others injured as torrential rains and strong winds caused widespread destruction in Dera Ismail Khan and adjoining areas, Aaj News reported on Sunday.
According to an official damage assessment report, five of the deceased belonged to Tehsil Dera Ismail Khan, while three were from Tehsil Paharpur. Most deaths were reported in roof collapses and other rain-related incidents.
Authorities said 41 injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, while six were taken to Mufti Mehmood Hospital. At least 26 patients were discharged after first aid treatment.
The downpour uprooted trees and snapped power lines, suspending electricity supply to several localities. Heavy rainfall was also reported in Peshawar, Mardan, Lakki Marwat, North and South Waziristan, with landslide risks rising in hilly regions, including Palandri.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh alert for heavy rainfall across the country until August 30, warning of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, monsoon showers inundated low-lying areas, flooded drains, and forced authorities to open spillways of Rawal Dam. Several trekking trails in the Margalla Hills were closed due to the risk of landslides.
Meanwhile, authorities in Skardu warned residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel as river levels rise. Hotels along the Gilgit River have been evacuated amid fears of overflow. In Punjab’s Kasur district, more than 30 villages were affected by flooding as water discharge in the Sutlej River intensified.
