Pakistan has called for strengthening the existing dialogue frameworks at bilateral, regional, and global levels to make them active and effective, Radio Pakistan reported on Sunday.

The call was made by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza while presenting Pakistan’s principled stance at the 22nd Shangri-La Security Dialogue 2025 held in Singapore.

Emphasising that prevention of conflict is better than post-crisis efforts, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee said Pakistan wants a global system based on sovereignty and restraint.

He said negotiations are indispensable for the security of South Asia.

Pointing to recent Indo-Pak tensions, he said India’s use of water as a weapon of war is a clear violation of international law.

General Sahir Shamshad Mirza stated the Pakistan National Security Committee’s categorical position that any attempt to block or divert Pakistan’s waters would be considered an act of war.

Terming the Kashmir disputes as the root cause of tension between Pakistan and India, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee said resolution of the dispute per the UN resolutions is inevitable for peace in South Asia.

He said Pakistan is desirous of lasting peace with India, based on dignity, equality, and mutual respect.

General Sahir Shamshad Mirza said Pakistan has been consistently demanding the restoration of a formal dialogue system from India and the international community.

He said the situation since the Pahalgam incident is endangering the development of the region.

General Sahir Shamshad Mirza said the lack of an effective crisis management system prevents world powers from intervening timely.

He said durable crisis management requia res foundation of mutual restraint, recognition of red lines, and equilibrium.
