ISLAMABAD: Robbers and thieves looted cash and valuables, including motorcycles as well as 70 separate incidents in the capital, during the last week.
According to data obtained by Business Recorder, the city reported 42 vehicle thefts, comprising 41 motorcycles and one car. In addition, 11 cases of armed robbery and 12 incidents of street crime were recorded, with victims losing mobile phones, cash, jewellery, and other valuables—many at gunpoint.
The capital also saw four cases of murder, prompting fears of targeted killings and escalating violence linked to organised crime groups.
Several police jurisdictions have emerged as high-risk zones, including areas under Koral, Industrial Area, Noon, Shehzad Town, Aabpara, and Khanna police stations. Criminal gangs operating in these regions are reportedly becoming more audacious in their activities.
One of the most serious incidents occurred near Faizabad Metro Station, where a Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team came under fire while pursuing a gang of suspected robbers. The attack resulted in the death of police officer Sudheer Ahmed Abbasi, while another officer, Jafar Jahangir, sustained critical injuries. The suspects reportedly opened indiscriminate fire to escape arrest.
In another alarming case, eight armed robbers stormed the home of a journalist in Sector D-17, located within the limits of the Sangjani police station. The suspects held the journalist’s family hostage at gunpoint, looting cash, jewellery, mobile phones, licensed weapons, and other valuables before fleeing the scene.
In the same period, auto thieves stole six motorbikes from the limits of Koral police station; five motorbikes from the jurisdiction of Industrial Area police station; another five motorbikes from the limits of Shehzad Town station; four motorbikes from the limits of Aabpara police station and other four motorbikes from Khanna police station.
During the last week, one of robbery and five cases of auto theft were reported to Koral police station, and armed robbers struck at four different places, and auto thieves stole one motorbike from the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi police station.
Another five cases included one case of robbery; three cases of car theft and one case of murder were reported to the Lohi Bher police station during the last week.
