ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar emphasised the importance of Japan as a development partner for Pakistan during a meeting with Japanese Ambassador Wada Mitsuhiro on Friday.
Tarar acknowledged Tokyo's valuable support during challenging times for Pakistan.
The meeting highlighted the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and Japan.
Discussions covered bilateral diplomatic relations, media sector cooperation, fake news, economic initiatives, and other mutual interests.
Both nations expressed a commitment to broadening their cooperative efforts across various sectors.
Minister Tarar commended the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for its developmental support in Pakistan.
He briefed the ambassador on the government's economic initiatives aimed at revitalizing the economy under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's vision. Tarar highlighted several measures to improve the business environment and attract investment, including reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to expand the tax base.
"Efforts are underway to provide business facilities to the private sector," Tarar noted, adding that the economic development of Pakistan has accelerated since the current government took office.
He cited predictions from international financial journals forecasting further economic progress for the country.
The meeting also addressed the global challenge of fake news and discussed collaborative efforts to combat misinformation.
Ambassador Mitsuhiro expressed Japan's interest in strengthening ties with Pakistan, stating that the government's business facilitation measures would enhance Pakistan's appeal to Japanese investors.
