FAISALABAD: On the instructions of the Government of Pakistan and the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), a full crackdown is underway against Fesco electricity thieves.
On the instructions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, indiscriminate checking is being done against electricity thieves in eight districts of the Fesco region during the day and night.
The Fesco teams caught 27 more electricity thieves during checking in six operation circles, who were found to be involved in electricity theft through direct supply and other different methods.
More than 68,000 detection units and fines of more than 28 lac 47 thousand have been imposed on these electricity thieves. The connections of all electricity thieves have been disconnected. Applications have been filed for registration of FIR against them.
In Faisalabad District, 1031 electricity thieves have been caught and fines more than 28 lac detection units amounting to more than Rs 13 crores. In Jhang District, 314 electricity thieves have been fined more than 11 lac 52 thousand detection units amounting to more than Rs 4 crore 81 lac. In District Bhakkar, 329 electricity thieves have been fined more than 8 lac 47 thousand amounting to more than Rs 4 crore 33 lac.
More than 10 lac 70 thousand detection units and Rs 4 crore 98 lac fine have been imposed on 349 electricity thieves in Chiniot district. More than 3 lac 60 thousand detection units and more than Rs one crore 68 lac fine have been imposed on 106 electricity thieves in Khushab district.
In district Mianwali, more than 8 lac 47 thousand detection units and a fine of more than 3 crore 89 lac have been imposed on 379 electricity thieves. In district Sargodha, more than 8 lac 49 thousand detection units and a fine of more than 3 crore 78 lac have been imposed on 349 electricity thieves. In district Toba Tek Singh, 245 electricity thieves have been fined more than 6 lac to 29 thousand detection units and more than Rs 3 crore 15 lakh.
In the ongoing special campaign against electricity theft, over 86 lac 62 thousand detection units and a fine of more than 40 crore 15 lac have been imposed on a total of 3136 electricity thieves from Fesco region during 45 days. 2,961 domestic, 90 commercial, 79 agricultural, and 6 industrial connections were found involved in electricity theft.
In total, 2,549 electricity thieves have been arrested from Fesco region and more than 22 crore have been recovered, while cases have been registered against 3,014 electricity thieves in various police stations so far.
