ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to allow a refund pending for five years to a former employee of the board.

While disposing of a complaint, the tax ombudsman asked the FBR to ensure requisite correction in tax refund orders amounting to Rs19,245 for the tax year 2017.

The complainant is a retired Inspector-IR, who filed an income tax return for tax year 2017, claiming a refund amounting to Rs19,968.

The department issued a refund order under Section 170(4) of the relevant ordinance, determining a refund of Rs19,245 on 09.06.2022.

However, no refund was credited into the bank account of the complainant despite repeated visits. The FTO referred the complaint to the revenue division’s secretary for comments.
