LAHORE: The six-member committee constituted under the Convenership of Additional Secretary Specialised Healthcare Department, has started probe about the matter of unidentified dead bodies found on the roof of Nishtar Hospital’s mortuary in Multan.

Sources claimed that the committee has sought some information from MS of the Nishtar Hospital. The sources claimed that these are the unidentified bodies handed over by the police to them for post-mortem. There is no issue of disrespect regarding the bodies and that after retrieval of bones, the bodies are “always” buried properly, suggesting it is a routine practice at the hospital, the sources said.

The sources said that now, only seven to eight bodies could be kept in the cold room as four freezers were not functioning, and given the hospital’s situation, two rooms above the cold room are full of bodies.

Moreover, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has taken notice of throwing abandoned corpses on the roof of Nishtar Hospital Multan and sought a report from the secretary specialized healthcare and medical education. CM ordered to hold an inquiry and said that strict disciplinary action should be taken against the responsible staff.

CM Elahi said an inhuman act has been committed by throwing dead bodies on the roof. He said that the desecration of dead bodies is intolerable. There is no room for such an incident in any society as it’s a mockery of humanity, he emphasized. The inquiry should be completed soon to determine the responsible persons and they should be punished severely, he concluded.
