ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended October 28, 2021 recorded an increase of 1.23 percent due to an increase in prices of tomatoes (11.42 percent), potatoes (6.05 percent), LPG (3.89 percent), sugar (3.74 percent), eggs (3.16 percent), electricity for Q1 (2.98 percent), chicken (1.09 percent), and cooking oil 5-liter (1.08 percent), says the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The year-on-year trend depicts increase of 14.31 percent with major increase in LPG (80.06percent), electricity for q1 (65.91 percent), mustard oil (47.88 percent), vegetable ghee 1kg (44.61percent), cooking oil 5-liter (42.30 percent), chilies powdered (33.43 percent), petrol (32.22 percent), chicken (31.52 percent), diesel (28.91 percent), washing soap (27.98 percent), and garlic (24.37 percent), while major decrease was observed in the prices of tomatoes (47.12 percent), onions (35.90 percent), moong (32.33 percent), potatoes (19.24 percent), and maash (0.79 percent).

According to the latest data, the SPI went up from 161.46 percent during the week ended October 21, 2021 to 163.44 percent during the week under review.

The SPI for the consumption groups up to Rs17,733, Rs17,733 to Rs22,888, Rs22,889 to Rs29,517, Rs29,518 to Rs44,175 and for above Rs44,175 increased by 1.29 percent, 1.37 percent, 1.14 percent, 1.01 percent, and 1.40 percent, respectively.

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 25 (49.02 percent) items increased, four (7.84 percent) items decreased, and 22 (43.14 percent) items remained stable, said the PBS in weekly SPI data.

The commodities, which recorded increase in their average prices include tomatoes (11.42 percent), potatoes (6.05 percent), LPG (3.89 percent), sugar (3.74 percent), eggs (3.16 percent), electricity charges for q1 per unit (2.98 percent), mustard oil (1.39 percent), gur (1.36 percent), chicken (1.09 percent), cooking oil Dalda or other similar brand (sn), 5-litre tin each (1.08 percent), maash (0.90 percent), vegetable ghee Dalda/Habib 2.5kg tin each (0.78 percent), rice basmati broken (0.69 percent), pulse gram (0.62 percent), mutton (0.57 percent), Sufi washing soap 250gm cake each (0.56 percent), beef with bone (0.47 percent), powdered milk Nido390gm polybag each (0.43 percent), masoor (0.41 percent), firewood whole (0.40 percent), cooked beef (0.34 percent), cooked daal (0.33 percent), vegetable ghee Dalda/Habib or other superior quality 1kg pouch each (0.25 percent), tea prepared (0.22 percent), and wheat flour bag 20kg (0.19 percent). The commodities, which recorded decrease in their prices during the period under review, include onions (5.49 percent), bananas (3.51 percent), moong (0.80 percent), and garlic (0.38 percent).

The commodities, whose prices remained unchanged during the period included rice IRRI-6/9 (Sindh/Punjab), bread plain, milk fresh, curd, salt powdered, chilies powder, tea Lipton Yellow Label, cigarettes Capstan, long Cloth 57” Gul Ahmed/Al Karam, shirting, lawn printed Gul Ahmed/Al Karam, Georgette, gents sandal Bata pair, gents sponge chappal Bata pair, ladies sandal Bata pair, gas, energy saver Philips, match box, petrol super, Hi-speed diesel, telephone call charges, and toilet soap.
