ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet, which is scheduled to meet on Tuesday (today), will formally congratulate Prime Minister Imran Khan on winning the vote of confidence from the National Assembly.

One of the Cabinet members will move a resolution to congratulate the Prime Minister on this victory amid “speculations and accusations” of opposition parties that some members of the National Assembly were forced to vote for him.

The victory of Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, former Prime Minister and joint candidate of PDM, by purportedly “purchasing” votes from 16 members of the ruling party PTI, is expected to be discussed in the Cabinet meeting.

The country’s economic situation and increasing trend in Covid-19 patients will also be discussed as some of the economic indicators like exports and agriculture growth are giving disturbing signals.

Although there is no official confirmation there is a possibility that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) may table a summary regarding withdrawal of 80 per cent tax and subsidy concessions, aimed at increasing revenue.

The regular agenda items to be considered by the Cabinet are as follows: (i) presentation on Metro Bus Project , Islamabad; (ii) change of retirement clause-PA-36118 Maj Nadeem Anjum, Artillery Regiment; (iii) draft Bill of Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE), 2021; (iv) contribution towards SAARC Covid-19 Emergency Fund; (v) appointment of the Members of Board of Governors under Federal Medical Teaching Institutes Ordinance, 2020; (vi) submission of cases for seeking approval of the Federal Government to grant fresh Overseas Employment Promoter licences, withdrawal, transfer and change of jurisdiction of Overseas Employment promoter licencees under section 12(2) & 12(4) of the Emigration Ordinance, 1979 and under Rules 8(5) & 11(A) of Emigration Rules, 1979; (vi) seeking opinion/stance of the Federal Government on the writ petition 29667/2020 Muhammad Salman Idrees versus the Federation of Pakistan and others in the Lahore High Court; (vii) posting of Deputy Director General (Finance) (BS-20) on deputation basis in Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA); and (viii) ratification of decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on CPEC, Cabinet Committee on Energy and Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet.
