KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has postponed the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) VI with immediate effect, following three more Covid-19 cases reported on Thursday morning, tallying positive cases to seven.

According to the PCB, the decision was made after seven cases were reported in the competition, which had started on Feb 20.

“Following a meeting with the team owners and considering the health and wellbeing of all participants is paramount, the PCB has postponed the HBL PSL 6 with immediate effect. The PCB, as an immediate step, will focus on the safe and secure passage of all participants, and arrange repeat PCR tests, vaccines and isolation facilities to the six participating sides.”

Meanwhile, PCB chief executive Wasim Khan along with director commercial and Babar Hamid at a press conference at the National Stadium, Karachi said this was a collective effort that they all had a responsibility to actually police and self-police that environment. Furthermore, he said they were not able to do it effectively enough that led to this situation, unfortunately.

Wasim said PCB had a discussion with the franchise owners on Thursday morning that led the conclusion that it was best to postpone the event, adding that during the meeting, a couple of possible solutions were also discussed including to halt proceedings for five days to examine the situation either to move forward or not.
