LAHORE: Punjab Seed Council (PSC) on Thursday approved 47 new seed varieties of different crops which include 7 BT cotton, one hybrid basmati and three traditional basmati varieties.

While new approved seed also include two varieties of date palm, three moong, two peas, two peanuts, two millet, five hybrid maize, one canola, one each of reddish, turnips, ginger, one traditional maize, canola, two wheat varieties for Barani areas and two for irrigated areas and others.

Approval was given at 54th meeting of the Punjab Seed Council (PSC) held at the Agriculture House with the Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Hussain Jehanian Gardezi in the chair.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister urged the agriculture scientists to pay attention towards such seeds which could face the challenges of climate change besides having resistance against different diseases. He also asked the scientists to further improve the research trials.
