ISLAMABAD: The government would bring reform in the criminal justice system as existing system has been taking too much time to decide the cases, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Thursday.

Speaking as the chief guest after formally launching the ‘Letters of Administration and Succession Certificates,’ the prime minister termed administration and succession certificate a big step to facilitate the common man in getting certificate to the legal heirs of deceased in 15 days instead of seven years.

The premier said bringing online the succession certificates with the help of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) would also facilitate the overseas Pakistanis who are asset of the country.

The prime minister asked the law minister to take on board the judiciary and the lawyers in this regard.

The prime minister also emphasized the need to reform the criminal justice system and stated that it takes too much time to decide about the cases, and the delay leads to corruption.

The prime minister said that female inheritance right also required to be made automatic, so that the females could get inheritance rights easily.

Minister for Law Farogh Naseem said getting letter of administration and succession was very difficult and even his family was unable to get succession and administration certificate.

This is a tangible achievement of the government reforms as letter administration and succession certificates would be possible in 15 days instead of seven years.

The chairman NADRA also spoke on the occasion.

The Law Ministry has devised a mechanism to establish Succession Facilitation Units in collaboration with the NADRA for the issuance of letters of Administration and Succession Certificates within 15 days of initiation of application by the legal heirs of the deceased, he added.

The PM’s Office said people-friendly law reforms were being considered crucial by the present government aimed at ensuring justice through people-friendly legislation.

One of the most important pieces of legislation that was enacted in this regard was the ‘Letters of Administration and Succession Certificates Act, 2020’.

The Act was crucial to address a common problem faced by the legal heirs of the deceased in the issuance of letters of administration and succession certificates.
