PESHAWAR: Prices of chicken meat, eggs, sugar, flour, vegetable and grocery items have sharply risen in the retail market, according to a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.

It was witnessed that the price of live chicken/meat has touched a new peak in the retail market as price almost doubled as it was available at Rs216 per kg amid growing demand in the ongoing wedding season. Similarly, with the increasing cold weather, the price of a dozen of farm eggs has also risen to Rs170-180.

Price of sugar also pushed up as it was available at Rs110 per kg in the local market, it was noticed. Likewise, the rates of ginger are completely out of reach of the purchasing power of a common man because it is being sold at Rs650-700 per kg. Similarly, the garlic was available at Rs250-300 per kg.

However, the price of tomatoes has gone down to Rs100 per kg which was being sold at Rs150 per kg in the previous week. A one kilogram onion is available at Rs70-80 in the retail market. Red-potato is being sold at Rs80-100 per kg while others are being available at Rs70 per kg. Green chilli is being sold at Rs200 per kg, lemon at Rs120-140 per kg, carrots are being sold at Rs50-60 per kg.

Price of peas has almost doubled as available at Rs250-260 per kg in the local market, arvi at Rs120 per kg, bitter gourd (Karela) at Rs120 per kg, cauliflower at Rs100 per kg, cabbage at Rs80 per kg, tori at Rs90 per kg, kado at Rs70 per kg and tinda at Rs60 per kg, turnip at Rs50 per kg.
