CAS lifts Manchester City’s Champions League ban

Manchester City will be competing in Champions League next year as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned the club’s two-year ban from European football.

The Manchester-based club were slapped two year suspension by UEFA's club financial control body in February for "serious breaches" of club licensing and financial fair play regulations.

A statement from CAS read: "The CAS award emphasised that most of the alleged breaches reported by the Adjudicatory Chamber of the CFCB were either not established or time-barred.

"As the charges with respect to any dishonest concealment of equity funding were clearly more significant violations than obstructing the CFCB's investigations, it was not appropriate to impose a ban on participating in UEFA's club competitions for MCFC's failure to cooperate with the CFCB's investigations alone."

The Premier League side vehemently denied any wrongdoing and appealed the decision at CAS last month, after previously describing the UEFA disciplinary process as "prejudicial".

City have already booked their place in the competition next year after securing second spot in the points table with three games to go.
