LAHORE: Under the Punjab Charity Act 2018, the Punjab government on Saturday constituted the Punjab Charity Commission, which will be responsible for bringing transparency in the collection of donations and its monitoring.

Commenting on the Commission, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar said it would be compulsory for all charitable organisations and institutions in Punjab to get registered with the Punjab Charity Commission before August 15. "The Commission will ensure the proper utilisation of charities and donations. It will help to maintain the ledger and keep a check on misuse and misappropriation of donations," he added.

He further said that in order to facilitate NGOs, trusts, societies and other charities, a web registration portal (www.charitycommission.punjab.gov.pk) had been set up. "It is another step towards promoting e-governance and ensuring the one-click access to services in the Punjab," he added.

Meanwhile, the CM paid a surprise visit to Orange Line Metro Train station at Dera Gujran and reviewed the preparations for the launch of train service. He also inspected the latest facilities being provided in Orange Line Metro Train, automatic equipment and different sections. He was accompanied by the Secretary Transport, DG LDA, Chief Engineer LDA, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Division, GM PMA, MD Nespak, and others were present on the occasion.

On the occasion, he said the train was a part of CPEC project and added the construction had almost been completed and the government was waiting for favourable conditions to start the service. "It will be formally started soon after addressing the issues raised by Covid-19. To safeguard passengers from COVID-19, SOPs will be strictly enforced in the Orange Line Train," he added.
