PESHAWAR: Mixed trend in prices of essential food items including live chicken/meat, vegetable, pulses, sugar, flour, fruits and others was witnessed in retail market, according to a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday.

Price of live chicken and meat has been decreased at Rs196 per kg, which was selling at Rs206 per kg in the previous week. Price of a dozen of eggs was remained unchanged as available at Rs100-110, according to the survey.

A surge of Rs5 per kg in price of sugar was witnessed in retail market, as available at Rs85 per kg against the price of Rs80 per kg in the last week. However, it was noticed that prices of flour retained on previous position as no change or increase was made by the shopkeepers and retailers.

According to the survey, the prices of veggies were remained sky-high in local market. For instance, peas are being sold at Rs250 per kg, flesh bean at Rs200 per kg, arvi at Rs150 per kg, capsicum at Rs120 per kg. Garlic was available at Rs250-260 per kg, while ginger is being sold at Rs400 per kg.

The survey said red potatoes are being sold at Rs80-90 per kg while old-seasonal potatoes being sold at Rs60 per kg. Onion is being sold at Rs40-50 per kg. Green chilli was available at Rs150 per kg. Cucumber is being sold at Rs50 per kg against the price of Rs50 per kg.

Tomatoes are being sold at Rs50-60 per kg. Bitter gourds are being sold at Rs89 per kg, apple, long and round gourds was available within range of Rs70-80 per kg. Bringle was being sold at Rs50-60 per kg, it added. Turnip is being sold at Rs40-50 per kg.

It was noticed that milk sellers have increased price to Rs140 from Rs130 per litre against the official fixed price of Rs90 per litre, while yogurt was available at Rs130-140 per kg against the official fixed price of Rs80 per kg, the survey noticed.

Fruit is a staple, which also has completely reached out from the purchasing power of common man as prices have touched new heights. For instance, apples are being sold at Rs 250-300 per kg. Lychee was being sold at Rs250-300 per kg.

Peach was available at Rs150-200 per kg, plum is being sold at Rs150 per kg, bananas are being available within range of Rs100-120 and Rs150 per dozen, mango is being sold at Rs80-100 and Rs120 per kg. Melon is being sold at Rs70-80 per kg, watermelon was available at Rs80-100 per kg.

The survey witnessed the prices of pulses and food grains remained high-side in retail market. For instance, good quality rice (sela) was available at Rs160 per kg.
