Pakistan’s experienced middle order batsman Shoaib Malik suffered from symptoms of delayed concussion during the fourth One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand on Tuesday.

Malik was struck by a ball on the back of his head while taking a run, during the first inning. Though Shoaib continued to bat, the all-rounder was not available on the field for his side during the second inning of the match.

"Shoaib was assessed by the match doctor and myself," Pakistan team physiotherapist VB Singh said, quoted ESPNcricinfo.

"He did not have any symptoms of a concussion and was able to carry on playing. After getting out, he was reassessed and was showing delayed concussion signs. He is doing well and is resting," Singh added.

The incident occurred during the thirty second over, when Malik was hit by  a throw from Coiln Munro while taking a single, the ball hit at the back of his head. Malik was not wearing a helmet at that point.
