Most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with Tribal Areas, on Tuesday celebrated religious festival Eid ul Fitr after announcement by unofficial Ruet-e-Hilal committee in its meeting on Monday night at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan.
The tradition of observing 'two Eids' persists in the province as unofficial 'Reut Hilal' committee, under chairmanship of Mufti Shahubuddin Popalzai at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan, announced sighting of Shawwal moon after receiving 21 evidence, including nine female.
Eid was partially observed in Peshawar, but majority of people offered Eid prayers in Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi districts, and all tribal agencies. Residents of Peshawar Cantt, Hazara and Malakand divisions, and Swat fasted on Tuesday and will celebrate Eid after announcement by Central Reut-e-Hilal Committee.
Amid tough security arrangements, Eid prayers were offered in different districts and tribal agencies including Peshawar, Bannu, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak, North Waziristan Agency (NWA), South Waziristan Agency (SWA) and other tribal areas. The largest religious gathering were held in Masjid Mohabbat Khan, Qasim Ali Khan, Sonehri Mosque, Hayatabad, and interior city areas along Kacha Garhi Afghan Refugees Camp, and other major mosques in various districts in the province.
'Ulema' delivered special sermons through which they highlighted significance of holy month of Ramazan. They called upon Muslims to forge unity and tranquillity among their ranks. At the end, they prayed for integrity, solidarity and peace, especially getting rid from menace of terrorism in the province and other parts of the country.
However, the provincial government had disowned the decision of unofficial Reut-e-Hilal committee and decided to observe Eid in pursuance of announcement by Central Reut-e-Hilal committee. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Chief Minister, provincial ministers and officials didn't observed Eid on Tuesday. The people of Malakand division, D.I. Khan, and Hazara divisions would observe Eid ul Fitr after announcement of Central Reut-e-Hilal committee.
