ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's acting Ambassador in Libya Ali Javed has said that Pakistanis residing in Benghazi and its suburbs are safe and no Pakistani has been killed, injured or arrested so far.

Talking to BBC, he said that the members of Pakistani community in Libya are almost seventeen to eighteen thousand in number.

He said that four hundred residents have been living in Benghazi for the last thirty years as they are settled there and are engaged in proletariat jobs. Almost three hundred and fifty Pakistani construction workers are residing outside Benghazi, he added.

He said that according to their reports no Pakistani has been killed or injured in the recent clashes.

Ali javed said that Pakistanis wanted instructions regarding their security and embassy advised them to remain peaceful and stay away from the protest demonstrations.

Embassy also advised them to keep in contact with each other and the food will become scarce in a couple of days.

Answering a question about the plans to evacuate Pakistanis from Libya, he said that there are some people who have been already suffering due to non payment of their salaries by the contractors. These workers have contacted us and requested that they should be sent home, therefore, embassy are devising a plan for them, he added.

About the overall security situation in Benghazi, he said that the members of Pakistani community have informed embassy that a sense of insecurity is prevailing in the city as lawlessness and looting are common and people are facing difficulty in procuring bread and other food items.

There has been a widespread violence during the past two days due to which people are facing difficulties in everyday life, he said.
