Seems like 5G technology would soon become a reality as Qualcomm just carried out its first 5G test on a mobile phone.

The X50 5G mobile modem was announced almost a year ago by Qualcomm. The modem was the first gigabit modem of its kind made for a mobile device. The company tested the modem and successfully accomplished a full gigabit speed. According to the company, as soon as all the 5G operations are completed, the speed will mount up to 5Gbps.

Along with that, the firm also unveiled its first ever 5G smartphone reference design. Since 5G is supposed to be launched by start of 2019, the design would be used for experimenting the 5G modems and networks with the smartphone creators within a year. The design is in talks for now and is expected to be 9mm thick and features a bezel-less display similar to other prevailing smartphones, reported The Verge.

5G technology for super-fast internet in offing: Anusha

“It often takes many iterations to get a chip to work right, but we executed on the new silicon. Our next step is a commercial launch in 2019. Our reference design will be ready in 2018. The goal is to have operator services in 2019,” Peter Carson, senior director of marketing at Qualcomm, told VentureBeat.

Furthermore, Qualcomm also revealed various components that will support T-Mobile’s new 600MHz spectrum. At present, only the LG V30 contains the new spectrum and Qualcomm aims that more devices can support it before this year’s end.

One of the announcements was also about the innovative Snapdragon 636 chipset, an entry-level chipset and the successor of Snapdragon 630.The chipset being 14nm is almost 40% faster than the Snapdragon 630, supports over 600 Mbps LTE and 24MP cameras along with ultrawide FHD+ displays.

Talking about Pakistan, few months earlier, the State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication of Pakistan, Anusha Rahman asserted that the country would become the first Asian country to test the 5G network and its technology.
