The President, Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has hailed the Sindh government for financially supporting Pakistan's former skipper, Qadir Bakhsh alias Putla. 63 years old Lyari-born Bakhsh, led Pakistan in 1970 RCD Cup in Tehran, played international events from 1965 to 1975 and also led the Sindh Red that clinched the 1975 National Championship in Quetta.
The veteran player was also the coach of President's-XI that clinched the President's Gold Cup held under Pakistan Customs in 1986. The PFF president said on Monday that football exists in Pakistan because of the love and spirit that Lyari people have for the game. He praised the Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan for setting up 'Legend Fund' two years ago for the welfare of national heroes, through which, the football legend received funds for his treatment recently. The Sindh Minister of Sports, Dr Mohammad Ali Shah presented a cheque of Rs 300, 000 to Bakhsh for his treatment on Saturday.
'The Sindh Governor has shown a great humanitarian gesture that will be remembered for many future years', Hayat said. Faisal said, 'It is also praiseworthy that the Sports Minister has promised to provide employment to the jobless son of Bakhsh by accommodating him in some department'.
Further, he said that Bakhsh is our national hero and the country and the PFF was proud of him. 'I take the opportunity and appeal to rich people, NGOs and philanthropists, who are in position to help the national legend badly in need of financial assistance', he said.
