NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has reaffirmed his government's firm commitment to move towards rapid economic gains, and said his government had targets that would lead to economic growth. He was talking to the members of the provincial assembly as a part of his weekly meetings here at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Wednesday morning. Durrani said the efforts were underway to attract mass-scale investment in industrial, agriculture and forest sectors that, he hoped, would remove backwardness, reduce poverty and create jobs.
He said his government had cut down non-developmental expenditures, maintained strict financial discipline and ensured accessibility to the government. His government was taking steps strictly in consonance with the people's aspirations, he maintained.
The Chief Minister assured the MPAs that his government would take all the political forces on board to get provincial rights, adding, "Our efforts have been giving the positive results".
The Prime Minister, assuring his government of financial help, said that next year Annual Development Program (ADP) would reflect the people's expectations. His government would go with a focus approach to ensure timely completion of schemes so that the people could get benefit of them, he added.
He said his government had given attractive package to domestic and foreign investors through an industrial policy, announced recently that exempted the industrial units from education tax, labour inspection and property tax and through one-window operation; the investors would have more attraction, he added.
He assured the industrial units in the industrial estate near Malakand-III project and elsewhere in frontier province would get electricity at cheaper rate, which hopefully would boost industrialisation and enhance economic and trade activities.
The Chief Minister said his government was about to announce agriculture policy, and added that it was focusing on water storage to be used for agriculture purposes.
Under the forest policy, there would be efforts for environmental protection and the officials of the forests department had been given incentives, he said.
Durrani assured that the backward areas would get more in the developmental strategy so that the people of those areas could get the benefit of development.
The Chief Minister was informed about the people's problems by certain MPAs on the occasion.
He was also kept abreast with the pace of work on various developmental schemes initiated in their areas.
