Millat Party's national council endorses decision of merger with PML
President Millat Party, Sardar Farooq Ahmed Leghari on Tuesday said that the decision of Millat party to merge with Pakistan Muslim League is aimed at bringing revolution in the lives of the down trodden as per manifesto of his party.
He was addressing the meeting of National Council of the party, which was held at Al-Hamra here.
The meeting attended by members of the national council from all over the country besides large number of workers, unanimously endorsed Central Executive Committee's decision to join PML and expressed full confidence in the leadership of Farooq Leghari authorising him to take any decision about party's future.
Leghari told workers that Millat party's merger in fact is not merger of a party into another party rather it is joining of political forces to form a new party.
He said Millat party is an ideological party as such it would not end following merger. Rather it would get strengthened as the new party would work for achieving the same objectives for which we have been working.
Talking about the reasons for this decision, he said President Pervez Musharraf asked him for joining hands with PML, a new party in changing political culture of the country, which regrettably revolves around personalities.
He said he told the President that his party cannot become part of any political force whose ideology is contrary to that of Millat Party.
"As president told us that his political vision is the same as ours and that new political entity's manifesto would be identical to that of Millat Party we decided to merge with the new entity," he told workers.
"However, he said, as per his party's tradition, decision in this respect was taken in consultation with Central Executive Committee of the party which today has been endorsed by party's National Council."
Farooq Leghari said like Millat Party, new political entity would work for the empowerment of resource-less people who constitute big majority of our population.
"Regrettably poor people have not been given their due rights in our society and it has been the privilege of only affluent and moneyed people to enter the corridors of power. We have been struggling to change this trend and after merger with PML we would continue struggle to achieve this objective."
He said besides ensuring protection of rights of industrial workers and farmers, the new political party would ensure development of all areas of the country.
"We would ensure that any particular area is not given preference over other areas so that people of all provinces and far flung areas have no sense of deprivation. It would help strengthen national integration and promote harmony among the provinces."
Expressing concern over provision of loans to growers at much higher mark up as compared to industrialists, he said, "We would end this disparity as revolution in agri field could not be brought about without such steps."
Appreciating the steps taken by present government especially Punjab government for promotion of education, he said, "We want that wards of the poor should have equal opportunities of acquisition of knowledge so that Pakistan could become a knowledge based society capable of competing with advanced nations of the world."
