imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has asked for establishment of emergency operation centre (ECO) for Polio eradication as per recommendation of International Monitoring Board.

He hoped that Sindh would be polio free province by the end of 2015.

This he said while addressing the ten members delegation of Bill & Melaindo Gates Foundation (BMGF) led by Doctor Waqar Ajmal and Doctor Orin Levine at a meeting here on Tuesday.

He said that the government was giving priority to eradicate polio menace from the society and adopted strict-polices, in this regard.

He said that now strict instruction has been passed for 100% coverage of the campaign in the province and all Deputy Commissioners and other concerned officers would be held responsible for negligence if any on their part.

He said that many transfers and inquiries of such failure have been initiated and this action has made officers more serious for Polio eradication.

Lauding the role of WHO and other foreign donors, NGOs and Polio fighting organizations, the Chief Minister said that Sindh government has supplemented its financial, technical and administrative steps 100 times more to make anti-polio campaign more successful.

He assured the delegation that emergency operation centre for polio eradication has been made functional at chief minister house while space for office would be provided to bring all stake holders under one roof to work as one team for the purpose.

Doctor Waqar Ajmal speaking on the occasion said that Bill Gates has put Pakistan at top of its agenda. He recommended for foolproof security to the Polio teams, proper implementation on the decision taken at high level meetings, and establishment of emergency operation centre and making it functional, in addition to expediting and ensuring routine immunization.

Secretary to Sindh Government for Health Iqbal Hussain Durani, speaking on the occasion said that full help and co-ordination is being extended to anti-polio organizations whereas the Sindh Government has increased its budgetary provision from Rs 95 million last year to Rs. 630 million this year to supplement the efforts of national and international organizations working for Polio eradication.
