KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Food Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that the government is considering to lower the prices of flour in Ramazan ul Mubarak and to give subsidy on flour to the poorest of the poor.
He said that every possible effort will be made to sell flour at Rs 36 Kilograms in Ramazan.
This he said while presiding over a meeting regarding Ramazan package in his office on Monday.
Secretary Food Saeed Ahmed Awan, Secretary Finance Suhail Ahmed Rajput, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and other high officials also attended the meeting.
He said that the government was also considering holding stalls at 28 points of Karachi where the flour would be sold on cheaper rates.
He said that the Food Department will take action against illegal profiteers with the help of the local administration.
The Food Minister requested to all stake holders to develop a mechanism to curb corruption and illegal profiting in order to get desired results.
To provide relief to the poorest of the poor help may be sought from the data of Benazir Income Support Programme and all flour mills will be taken on board regarding Ramazan package, he added.
Jam Mehtab Hussain said that due to efforts of the Sindh Food Department, flour was being sold on cheaper rates compared to other provinces of Pakistan.
Karachi is the city of 20 million people and there is no shortage of wheat and flour in the city, he said.
He said that the Food Department and local administration will develop an excellent working relationship during Ramazan to provide relief to the people of Sindh.
