imageThis year’s Sunday Times Rich List ranks Paul McCartney, former Beatles singer, as the richest musician in Ireland and the UK, while Adele is listed as the wealthiest musician under the age of 30. The list will be published on April 21st.

70-year-old McCartney has been topping the rich list every year since it began in 1989. Being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1996 might have had something to do with it, but his wife Nancy Shevell’s share in her father’s New England Motor Freight trucking scheme definitely contributed to his fortune. So did his performances at the opening and closing ceremonies at the London Olympics. He earned $57 million on his tour for the album “On the Run” last year, bringing the grand total of his current fortune to $1.04 billion.

Trailing McCartney at No.2 is British composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber with his $952 million. “The Phantom of the Opera” composer is just ahead of Irish rock band U2, who own $799 million, perhaps owing to hits like “Vertigo” and “Original of the Species.” Elton John, beloved singer of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” for the Disney film “Lion King”, stands in fourth place, with a worth of $369 million.

McCartney isn’t the only knight in the list: Tying in fifth place are Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger, and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham with her football hunk husband David Beckham, both with approximately $307 million in their names.

Adele’s $46 million fortune placed her atop the Young Music Rich List of entertainers aged 30 or less. Winning an Oscar for her song in the new James Bond movie “Skyfall” added to her fame, while her recent album “21” helped her earn 50% of her current value.

With nearly $8 million each, Emeli Sande (“Heaven”), Ed Sheeran (“The A Team”) and all the members of One Direction also made the list. Their combined fortune of $40 million makes them Britain’s richest boy band.
