Canadian canola futures slip

Published Updated

ICE Canadian canola futures slipped on Friday to a two-week low, pressured by overall bearish sentiment despite broader strength in vegetable oils.

Large Canadian canola stocks and rail disruptions due to protests are weighing on prices, a trader said.

"There's just a negative cloud over canola right now," he said.

The coronavirus outbreak is affecting talks between Canada and China about Beijing's decision to block Canadian canola seed shipments, Canadian Agriculture Minister Marie Claude Bibeau said.

March canola shed $1 to $458.30 per tonne. It dipped as low as $457, the weakest nearby price since Feb. 5.

Most-active May canola lost 60 cents to $467.40 per tonne.

March-May canola spread traded 5,606 times.

US soyabean futures fell, giving up earlier gains, after failing to breach a key technical point.
