It was yet just another day at work for Pakistan’s Babar Azam, as the opening batsman continued to pile up runs for his side Somerset at the ongoing T20 competition the Vitality Blast 2019.

Azam scored a quick fire 44 off 29 balls, hitting six boundaries in the process against Gloucestershire at Bristol, before being beaten by a turning delivery from Tom Smith in the tenth over and stumped by James Bracey

However, Azam’s fine effort ended up in vain as Somerset failed to reach the 190 runs target and collapsed to 164, losing the game by 25 runs. The Pakistani batting superstar however, remains the top-scorer in the tournament with 478 runs in 10 matches at a mouthwatering average of 59.75 and strike-rate of 152.71.

“At half way to the chase, we were cruising and were way ahead of where (Gloucestershire) they were but a few sloppy dismissals unfortunately cost us,” said Jason Kerr, Somerset county head coach.

“We still have three group games left, starting tomorrow against Glamorgan, and we know we must win at least two of them. But we go out to win every match and we will still back ourselves to qualify,” he added.
