CHICAGO: Spot basis bids for corn were mostly firmer at interior processors and elevators east of the Mississippi River early on Wednesday, grain dealers said.
Farmer sales in that area have been slow despite a futures market rally this week.
A record-slow pace of planting has made many farmers wary of booking new deals until they finish their seeding tasks, dealers said.
In western areas, corn bids were steady to weak as growers in Iowa and Nebraska were ahead of their eastern counterparts in planting.
Soybean bids were steady to firm in the east and flat in the West.
Along rivers, corn and soybean bids were mixed.
Bids fell at river terminals where high water has made barge loading difficult, chilling demand for supplies.
But bids were firm in areas where movement along rivers was smoother.
