Obama discusses Islamabad trilateral summit, Afghan reconciliation

WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama had a telephonic conversation with President Hamid Karzai and discussed regional support for Afghan reconciliation process including last week's trilateral summit of Pakistani, Afghan and Iranian leaders.

"They discussed regional support for Afghan-led reconciliation, the Afghanistan-Pakistan-Iran trilateral meetings last week in Islamabad, and other strategic issues of mutual concern," a White House readout of the conversation said.

Obama and Karzai "agreed to speak again soon to remain closely aligned as both countries continue our efforts to achieve common goals, and work to forge a long-term partnership," the statement added.
