moenjodaroKARACHI: Sindh Culture Department has got sanctioned Rs.100.00 million for Mohenjo-Daro to execute Master Plan for Rehabilitation and Cultural Tourism (MPRCT) and also regularizing the services of 24 employees of National Fund for Mohenjo-Daro.

The department also plans repairs of the Rest House at Mohenjo-Daro, Topographic survey of the site, repair of the vehicle of Sir John Marshall, reprinting of the old / out of print books of Sir John Marshall, setting-up of a Committee under Commissioner Larkana for Tree-Plantation at the site, reopening of the theft case of seals.

The Culture department is working on preparedness for ensuing monsoon season to save the archaeological site.
Exploring possibilities of fund-raising, encouraging students’ visits to the archaeological site of Mohenjo-Daro, constructions of Public toilets, conservation, rehabilitation and maintenance of site, promotion of tourism, facilities for the tourists / visitors, site management strategy and security setup were also among the future plans.

The archaeological site of Mohenjo-Daro was devolved to Sindh in April, 2011, prior to which it had been with the Federal Government.

Since all its affairs were being run by an Executive Board /Technical Consultative Committee, Sindh Government immediately notified setting up of Executive Board under the Chairmanship of Minister Culture, Sindh and Technical Consultative Committee headed by Prof. Dr. Nilofer Shaikh, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur last year.
