The parliamentary board of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) held a marathon session on Sunday to finalise its candidates for the national assembly and four provincial assemblies in the upcoming general election as Monday is the last date for filing of nomination papers. The session was attended by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, Asif Ashraf and Rana Mashood among others.
According to sources 70 percent tickets would be awarded to the previous members of the legislative assemblies though over one hundred legislators had deserted the party. Shehbaz Sharif was reported to be in favour of awarding party ticket to Ch. Nisar Ali Khan but the party Quaid Nawaz Sharif overruled him saying that only those candidates would be given party tickets who apply for them.
"Mian Sahib, you are the party's Quaid and it is your decision whether to give me a ticket or not," Shehbaz said before the party board. Nawaz Sharif applauded Shehbaz Sharif's performance as Chief Minister Punjab and awarded him party tickets for the constituencies of his choice. Meanwhile nomination papers of Shehbaz Sharif were received by the party leaders in Karachi and submitted on Sunday for NA-248, NA-249, and NA-250.
Regarding Maryam Nawaz and Shehbaz, sources earlier said, "It appears that they both will contest elections from three constituencies each." Maryam has submitted the nomination papers for NA-127 in Lahore district. PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that a fair few turncoat politicians left the party and the front made for the cause of Southern Punjab died down within two days.
Addressing the parliamentary board he said that the people in Punjab acknowledge that the amount of development work in the province in the past 10 years is unparalleled. Nawaz further said that negative propaganda is a part of the politics and he has been seeing it since the day he joined politics.
