Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that the people of Pakistan condemn the resolution adopted by the Punjab Assembly against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
He expressed these views while talking to media here on Wednesday after the conclusion of his meeting with the PTI parliamentarians. He said whenever the Supreme Court or the NAB takes up a corruption case against the Sharif family, they come under attack by the N-league. "The Sharif family acts like a mafia and they control all the institutions. The institutions that do not listen to their dictates are targeted by the Sharif family. The Pakistan Army and the Supreme Court were targeted and now the NAB is being assaulted by the N-League for taking up corruption cases against them. The institutions are being destroyed in a bid to save their (Sharifs) wealth," he said.
He pointed out that no country makes progress with development of roads and bridges unless institutions are empowered. He assured the NAB that the people and the Supreme Court fully support their pursuit against the Sharif family. "The NAB should take a full action against them," he wished.
According to him, in nine years the Punjab government has spent Rs 9 trillion. The people of Punjab should ask them where this money was spent. "Has this money been utilised to make new schools, hospitals, water supply lines or to control law and order situation in the province? The truth is this money was misused on those expensive mega projects where huge kick-backs were involved. Moreover, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed front-men like Ahad Cheema to do their dirty work of collecting the kick-backs." He urged the people to hold the Sharif family accountable for misusing Rs 9 trillion.
He also accused the Sharif family of removing people from the scene who testify against them. "Faisal Suhban, CEO of Capital Construction and Engineering Limited, went missing after exposing the corruption in the Multan Metro Bus projects and naming Shehbaz Sharif in the scandal. Same was the case with Nadeem Zia, Chairman of Paragon, who has been sent aboard after the recent scandal," he added. He also questioned the validity of Rs 40 billion spent on publicity of 'fake projects' and vowed to recover it.
On the election of Nawaz Sharif as the 'Quaid for Life', Imran questioned the moral integrity of the N-League members. He said in a democratic party, no one is elected for lifetime; in fact there is no room for such a position. "The PML-N should have asked Nawaz Sharif about Rs 300 billion he has accumulated, but instead they elected him. They have elected a person who loots and plunders the national wealth," he added.
When asked about PML-N senior leader Chaudhary Nisar, he replied that he has shown dignity by refusing to work under Maryam Nawaz. In response to Nawaz Sharif's remarks on 'PCO judges', he said when a court gave a decision against former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, they welcomed it. When a decision comes against the Sharif family, it is termed as a bad decision. "Sharifs have double standards," he commented. He was optimistic that PTI senior leader Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar will win the Senate seat from Punjab. Later, while addressing the party workers of Lahore, Imran said they are launching a country-wide people-to-people contact campaign which will last for two months. He urged the party workers to participate in the campaign with full commitment. "I will personally be involved in the campaign," he added.
