The Sindh Assembly on Monday adopted a law to regularize the jobs of long-awaiting contractual teachers with a unanimous vote. The provincial government had appointed some 15649 teachers on a contract basis between 2012 and 2014 and their jobs will be regularized owing to adoption of 'The Sindh Regularization of Teachers Appointed on Contract Basis Bill, 2018.'
However, MQM questioned whether the regularization of teachers is made through a quota system, as Syed Sardar Ahmed asked the treasury to clarify its move. He also sought the exact number of teachers who will now find a permanent place on government's employees list. "It is a pleasant move to regularize teachers," he said.
Sindh Education Minister, Jam Mehtab Dahar replied that the government took the step to regularize the contractual teachers keeping in view their need for the department. He dispelled the impression that any teacher was regularized on a quota system. "Teachers were regularized on a need basis," he made it clear to the house.
A total of 15649 teachers were considered for regularization, who had passed the National Testing System during a period of 2012 to 2014 and were working on a contract basis across the province. The legislations will now help regularize the higher, secondary and primary teachers. The move will also end the long-running confrontation between the government and teachers.
Earlier, Sindh Law Minster, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar told the house during questions and answer session that the government is working on regularization of all the slums - 'katchi abadis' established before 1999. "The Sindh government understands its responsibility in this regard," he said. Sindh Home Minister, Sohail Anwar Siyal, replying to a question, placed by PTI's Khurrum Sher Zaman Khan on ice-drugs in some colleges and schools, said that the department has ordered action against such activities to protect the students from addiction.
