The two-day Lahore Literary Festival (LLF), free and open to the public, kicked off at Alhamra Arts Centre, on Saturday. All the six halls at the Alhamra Arts Centre were occupied with the art and literature lovers, oozing out one after another to listen to their favourite writers, thinkers and intellectuals.
The district administration has ensured a tight security of the venue where long queues of cars was a prime feature for the onlookers. The organizers are expecting a high turnover on Sunday, the last day of the annual event. Two condolence references were special features of the event. The first one was about the renowned columnist Munoo Bhai titled as 'Munoo Bhai ki Yaad Mein Jangal Udaas Hain'. Those who addressed the reference included I.A. Rehman, Kishwar Naheed, Wajahat Masood, and Hussain Naqi while it was moderated by Asghar Nadeem Syed.
In another reference held for human rights activist Asma Jahangir titled as 'Asma Jahangir: Warrior Icon' was addressed by I.A. Rehman, Ahmed Rashid, Salima Hashmi, Munizae Jahangir, and Jilani Jahangir with Lyse Doucet as a moderator. As many as seven books were launched on the first day of the festival which included When Tribesmen Came Calling: Building an Enduring American Business in Pakistan by S. Qaisar Shareef, The Fickle 70s: Memoirs 1972-79 by F S Aijazuddin, The New Pakistani Middle Class by Ammara Maqsood, Governing the Ungovernable by Dr Ishrat Hussain, Batwaray Ka Mausam, Jallundar se Lahore by Salman Rashid and Shaista Sirajuddin, The Orchard of Lost Souls by Nadifa Mohamed and Feast by Bisma Tirmizi.
