Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has said that steps have been taken to generate the surplus energy adding that those areas where the losses are less than 10 percent have not been facing any load shedding since December 2017. He said that targets have been given to the Chief Executives Officers of DISCOs for reducing line losses and for the provision of uninterrupted electricity.
He expressed these views in his message, he said that we had also launched net metering facility for consumers. He said that the government had removed the Chief executive officers of five companies for their negligence, accumulating losses and failing in checking the power theft and achieving the assigned targets. He said that we have surplus energy in this year and as per the details, 16000 megawatt electricity would be produced against the demands of 15800 megawatt in the month of march, 18,000 megawatt in April against the production of 18800, in May there would be 20,888 megawatt against the present 20,900 megawatt, in June demand would be 23,966 against the production of 24,310, and however in July it would be 24,029 megawatt against the production of 24800 megawatt.
It is evident from these figures that we have surplus electricity in our system but there is always a possibility of some impulsive and unexpected technical interruptions like failure of transformers or interludes of power lines which can cause the load shedding in respective areas and the residents would be timely informed about it.
Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad khan Leghari further told that for the summer 2018, our total production would be 25000 megawatt, which is much better as compared to the 10200 megawatt of 2013. Current deficit in distribution and electricity production is 17.8 reducing the total losses of 2013 which were accounted as 19%.
In spite of reducing deficit till 17.8, still we need to bear 360 Billion on annual basis which cannot be assimilated neither by our economy nor by those consumers who regularly pay the bills. He further expressed that in the first or second week of March 2018, we will share the details about the surplus electric power in system, load shedding and some other relevant details. But I personally request to the people to cooperate with us in this regard by installing the net metering, paying the bills regularly, and to point out the power theft in any area. We are striving hard to facilitate our consumers in a more productive manner.
