Arguing that development is connected with human rights, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar called for legal fraternity's support to address impediments hampering social sector development. Speaking at the Islamabad High Court Bar Association on Thursday, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar also said that references against judges in the apex court would be decided by June this year.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar reiterated that survival of the country lies in the supremacy of law, adding that foundation of the supremacy of law has been laid in the country and now it is the duty of legal fraternity to ensure it for the next generation. Outlining the role of judges, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said that a judge has to think about what to say, but at the same time he said while addressing Islamabad District Bar Association president Riast Azad that after his retirement from the office of chief justice he will speak more like an orator in the bar.
Emphasizing the dire need of dispensation of justice for the destitute, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said he believes in dispensing justice without fear and favour, adding that during his tenure he will try to reduce the practice period for lawyers so that they may become supreme court advocate in five years from the day of starting practice instead of the existing criteria of seven years.
