Revoking protective bail concession for suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar, who failed to turn up before the court on Friday in Naqeebullah Mehsud extrajudicial murder case, the Supreme Court issued directives to all spy agencies to cooperate with Sindh police to apprehend the fugitive officer.
While hearing a suo moto notice in the matter, a two-member bench of Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijazul Ahsan asked MI, ISI, IB, FIA and FC to provide assistance to Sindh police in nabbing the officer.
The bench also issued show cause notice to Rao Anwar under Article 204 read with Section 3 the Contempt of Court Ordinance 2003 for defying the court's directives as the apex court has earlier granted protective bail to Anwar in response to his plea to provide him a chance to prove his innocence before the apex court.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar directed the governor State Bank of Pakistan to freeze bank accounts of Rao Anwar whereas all the provincial police chiefs have been ordered to provide security to the witnesses. During the course of hearing, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar observed that Sindh Police chief AD Khowaja had checked authenticity of Rao Anwar's signature on the letter which he wrote to Human Right Cell, claiming that he was innocent in the matter.
At the outset of the hearing, responding to the court's query AD Khowaja submitted that Rao Anwar has not arrived at the court, to which Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar remarked that Anwar missed an opportunity to surrender even having the concession of protective bail. Latter, hearing of the matter was adjourned for 15 days.
