Pakistan former captain turned cricket commentator, Ramiz Raja has raised alarm bells for opening batsman Imam ul Haq, after a dismal showing against New Zealand on the second day at third Test on Tuesday.

“Pakistani openers failed yet again, it is an alarming situation especially for Imam ul Haq, who gets hit on the helmet when facing a bouncer, and on the second delivery doesn’t play it and gets catch out at the slips.”

“Imam needs to work on bouncers, and Pakistan needs to find another opener as well, after Hafeez announced his retirement,” said Raja at Ramiz Speaks.

Earlier, veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez announced to retire from Test cricket after the ongoing Test match against the New Zealand at Abu Dhabi. Hafeez however, would continue to represent Pakistan in limited overs cricket.

Raja then went on to praise Bilal Asif’s bowling performance, as the off-spinner claimed five wickets, proving that he is more than just a economical bowler. However, Asif nees to develop variation in his bowling, opined Raja.

Pakistan, in reply to New Zealand´s first innings total of 274, were 139-3 at close on the second day of the third and final Test in Abu Dhabi.

Azhar Ali was unbeaten on 62 at the close with Asad Shafiq on 26. Pakistan still trail by 135 runs with seven wickets intact.
