Veteran Hafeez announces Test retirement

Pakistan veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez has announced to retire from Test cricket after the ongoing Test match against the New Zealand at Abu Dhabi.

The announcement came on Tuesday, just at the end of Day 2 of the third Test with Pakistan scoring 139 runs at the loss three wickets, Sarfraz’ men trailed by 135 runs in their first inning of the series decider.

“I’m announcing my retirement from Test cricket and I’m really happy and proud to do that because I feel I really worked hard in my 15 years of my career. Thanks to Pakistan cricket for being with me at every step of my career,” said Hafeez, who was out caught at slips by Tim Southee off Trent Boult, on naught in Pakistan’s innings just before lunch.

Meanwhile, Hafeez would continue to represent Pakistan in limited overs cricket. The Sargodha born 38 years old has scored 3644 runs in 55 Tests at an average 37.96, with 10 centuries and 12 fifties to his credit, with the best of 224 runs.
