Karachi International Book Fair (KIBF) Chairman Aziz Khalid Saturday said, "It is unfortunate fact that Pakistan has only five paper industries in four provinces which visibly affected printing work and non-provision of local based paper of better quality and standards."
Aziz Khalid was expressing his views while addressing media representatives during third day of KIBF 2017 to be continued till Monday, December 11-2017 at Expo Centre Karachi. He detailed that international publishers were being contacted in this regards for removing such barricades in printing work. Khalid urged the government to low import duties on papers to get positive results of printing and publications after reduction in expenses.
He urged government to cooperate with them for assuring availability of books in lesser prices across the country which could only be possible after reduction in ratio of duties on imported paper. Khalid said that books with hefty prices were affecting middle-class. Provision of facilities to local paper industries will hail Pakistan as prominent place in international paper industry, he added.
KIBF Chairman complained, "Only five paper industries are present in four provinces. Shortage of facilities is consistently affecting our printing and publication work as it does not meet number of Pakistani authors and writers."
Aziz Khalid estimated that KIBF set up record of selling books and other publications worth millions during the ongoing international book fair within three days while it will definitely go up in coming time. He added that many education conscious mothers purchased many sets of books for their beloved kids when they just put finger on their favourite books. Khalid praised the mothers for their compassionate action as they knew importance of books.-PR
