An accountability court on Monday formally declared former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's both sons, Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, as proclaimed offenders for not appearing before the court in three corruption references filed against them by National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The anti-graft body had filed three references including Flagship, Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metals Establishment and Avenfield properties against the Sharif family. Hassan and Hussain are accused in all three references, while Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar (retd) are accused in one of these references.
The NAB also submitted a reference before the court about the properties of Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, which stated that the NAB did not find any property in the country owned by them, and the Bureau had already seized their banks accounts. According to accountability law's Section 502, the witnesses will also record their statements in the case. The court further ordered the NAB to present the accused before the court when they are arrested.
The court on October 9 separated the trial of Hassan and Hussain and also ordered to initiate the process of declaring them proclaimed offenders. The court on October 12 issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Hassan and Hussain and on the same day, the NAB posted the court's proclamation order on the main gate of the Sharif family's residences in Jati Umra and Model Town, Lahore.
