January 1 to October 31, 2017: violent crimes claim 331 lives in 10 months in Karachi

From January 1 to October 31, 2017, 331 people were killed in criminal violence in Karachi, according to a report compiled and released by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee. In January alone, the report said, 31 people fell victim to such violence. The figure rose to 34 in February, 25 in March, and 31 in April. It shot up to 36 in May, through it fell to 26 in June. July, August and September had the worst figures in those ten months, with killed 39 in July, 41 in August and 43 in September. October had the same figure as in March, with 25 killed.
The number of mobiles snatched between January and October was 10,911. The number of those stolen, not snatched at gunpoint, was 14,629. There were 20,430 cases of motorcycle thefts and 1,764 were taken away through use or threats of force. One hundred and seventy-three motor vehicles were taken at gunpoint and 1,052 were stolen during the period under review. There were ten cases of kidnapping for ransom and 55 of extortion. The ten months in question were not without bank robberies. Eight had been registered by October 31.
