SC disposes of suo motu murder case

Disposing of suo motu case on Barrister Fahad Malik's murder, the Supreme Court on Friday asked the parties to seek remedy from the appropriate forum in the matter. Islamabad Police have submitted a detailed report pertaining to investigation and current status of challan submitted in pursuance of the apex court's earlier directive before the Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali during hearing in the chamber.
Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali examined the police report, which describes that investigation of the crime has been completed in all respects, whereas accused are facing trial before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). The police report further disclosed that the ATC transferred the case to the regular court for trial on December 21.
The Chief Justice disposed of the suo moto notice observing that aggrieved parties may pursue their remedy against the removal of provision of the Anti-Terrorism Act in the case before the appropriate forum. The Chief Justice further issued directives to the police to deal with the case as per law.
A young man was gunned down while another was wounded critically when a rival group opened fire at them near Shalimar police station of the federal capital after both the groups came out of the police station in the early hours of Monday, police said. Barrister Fahad Malik, nephew of the former Prime Minister and Chairman Senate Mohammad Mian Soomro was shot dead in Sector F-10/3 of Islamabad on August 15. On August 31, Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali took notice of Malik's murder on a note of the registrar which detailed the incident.
