The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association purchased 85,325 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in a tender which closed on Thursday, European traders said. The wheat was bought in two consignments comprising various wheat types, they said.
The first consignment for shipment between January 8-22, 2017, comprised 23,550 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $259.83 a tonne fob, 14,450 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought at $223.77 a tonne fob and 8,225 tonnes of soft white wheat with 10.5 percent protein bought at $187.40 a tonne fob, traders said.
The first consignment was bought from trading house ADM and has an additional freight charge of $25.36 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said.
The second consignment for shipment between January 25 to February 8, 2017, involved 23,950 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $259.83 a tonne fob and 15,150 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought at $226.25 a tonne fob, they said. The second consignment was bought from Columbia Grain and has an additional charge of $29.36 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said. The association is a traditional buyer of US wheat. In its last reported tender on October 14, the association purchased 80,650 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States.
