Leading industrialist and All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Group Leader Gohar Ejaz has said that lack of education and unemployment are the major reasons behind surge of terrorism in the country. While addressing the concluding session of international symposium here at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Wednesday, Gohar said that industrialists are fully aware of what is going on in the country but they would keep enhancing production capacity of the economy and would not let lose Pakistan's market share to its competitors.
The two-day symposium on biomaterials was conducted by Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM), Lahore, in collaboration with UHS, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, King Edward Medical University, Lahore.
Gohar further said that textile sector contributed 60 percent of the total exports of the country and provided employment to over 15 million people. He was of the view that the outputs of research had a direct impact on growth by providing innovative and cost-effective ways to meet the needs of business and industry. Professor Jean-Louis Marty from University of Perpignan, France, in his talk on biosensors said there had been an increasing demand of biosensors for medical applications in recent years.
He anticipated that in coming years, scientists would focus to monitor the human body in all aspects. "Livers will be monitored to make sure that enzymes are functioning correctly in filtering out the toxins, hearts will be monitored to avoid the heart attacks and individual cancer cells may even be killed using another portion of the sensor", Professor Marty envisioned.
